Not very often I get to write about something very special on my blog. This time it is a very special occasion. The owner of an Australian based audio business has lend me a pair of his bookshelf speakers to listen to. This is a big speaker in every aspect apart from their physical size. In this case size does not matter, as these speakers with your closed produce a sound of any size speaker you want them to be.
Being an active speaker, connected directly to my Audiolab 8200 CDQ they isolate the need for having power amps. They can be run either using RCA leads or XLR. Technically I don’t have much knowledge what drivers are used or how the Xover was setup or what sort of amplifiers are running these speakers. Listening to an active speaker is a whole lot of experience in itself. They sound more alive, they sound more punchy, more precise, and so much lifelike, like no other speaker I have heard.
The sound of these little speakers is something I cannot describe and I am not going to attempt to do. I am so glad that I have had the opportunity to listen to these speakers, let alone have them in my setup in my apartment for a few weeks.
This is how danA describes these speakers:
q:ter is a small active (bookshelf size)unit, suitable for near field monitoring, stereo and all surround channels
including center channel (naturally, not for LF channel), high current FET output amp, 50Hz to 20kHz
